The film "Suite Française" does something interesting, and similar, by having all the French characters speak with clearly class-differentiated English accents, and then the Germans speak German to each other and German accented English to the French.

Huge fan of Chris Bachelder's writing. I was hugely surprised that LiVTP was released as a freebie given how, as you've said, excellent it was.

I see the headline and think "right, my time to shine" only to find that some prick's already made the joke. Fucking internet.

When once asked in jest what he smoked to stay so young-looking, Price replied "Other guitar players."

Just wanted to say thanks for calling this out. I went and tracked down "The Bottoms" and it's as deep and excellent as you say.

Very much agree. It's weird that a show that treats its characters with respect and kindness is an anomaly.

It's even better than that!

I don't think that's the sort of thing Pegg would do. Michael Smiley on the other hand, he'd be in like a shot.

Given that Mucho Mojo is my fave of the novels, I'll watch the next series, but this episode is a perfect example of why screenwriters are advised to "get in late, get out early". This episode is almost entirely perfunctory beyond the first ten minutes. It really tells us nothing about the characters, their

Mucho Mojo is also my favourite and also the first one I read. Savage Season reads like exactly what it is the introduction of two characters the writer isn't quite sure what to make of yet. Mucho Mojo is a lot more certain in voice, the characters and their abilities.

"Don't think. Feel. It's like a finger pointing away to the moon."
*smack*
"Don't concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all that heavenly glory."

I have to disagree. I found Gareth's weasely desperation far funnier than Dwight's beet farming antics.

"Chris, why don't you fuck off?"

"Hey bro. I know we're handcuffed together and both scared for our lives, but how about you stomp that bitch's head while I chomp this motherfucker's jugular out with my teeth."

Whoa, steady on, Dexter. Unlike your bad self, not everyone's murdered more people than they've had hot dinners. Some people, when presented with the slightest chance, would choose to run the fuck away. Not everyone is the Natural Born Killer you are, do try and empathise, dear.

I loved that show and you're right, totally a H+L vibe. Two relative fuck-ups who can't leave well enough alone and are just competent enough to get out of whatever trouble they inevitably bring down on themselves.

Hap in the books is a very likeable character - he'd wanna be since he's the narrator. I think it takes a real talent to fuck that like-ability up and to be generous to Mr Purefoy I'll lay the blame on the script.

That is a spot on description of the difference between the show and the books. The best thing I can say about the show is that at least it has people talking about the books and hopefully reading them, cause they are excellent, and I also hope this is putting loads of money in the pockets of Mama Lansdale's Youngest

Agree. I've been catching up on B99 so maybe overload, but for me the character started off well and disintegrated into Rafi so bloody quickly I expected Dirty Randy to turn out to be the hitman.

The 12yo me calmly stated "dragon whips his tail" after just about every single faux-fu move I preformed in the playground.
