Bonding over Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet was the start of a brief fling in college.
Also in college: a friend and I first really bonded over our love of Freaks.

@Midnight: In the Trevor Noah Era
Upon the arrival of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in September 2015, @Midnight averaged 0.16 in the fall. It climbed a small amount later in the season even as The Daily Show slipped, but the best weeks it had that season weer a couple 0.2-weeks in February. In the summer of 2016,…

My previous relationships were the more traditional opposite. They had little exposure to classic stuff, but frequently enjoyed what I showed them — though one of them hated Casablanca. That might have been the beginning of our end.
Silent films are usually my step 4 — after foreign films, especially older ones from the French New Wave and Italian Neorealism. I wish I had more IRL friends that enjoyed such cinema.
1: Casablanca — gorgeous script, but B&W and the not-happy ending; the greatest test
2: Amadeus (to see it is to know me, I proclaim!*)
Great Job, What’s on Tonight! You went 0 for 5 this week in noting your Adventure Time coverage.
I figured it had to be a Tortellis pilot. Valerie and AIF debuted in a few weeks. Unless there's an unknown to imdb pilot, which isn't impossible.
MUST SEE TV, 6 February 1986
(Week 20; ratings ranking out of 60 programs)
LITERARY THREESOMES… Hmmm, I don't think I've even read a book that hinted at characters doing… OH, wait. Wrong kind.
Really? Zoo? With all the under-appreciated but notable shows around, you guys pick Zoo…
For real. The AV Club will be publishing 10,000+ words analyzing Friends from College. Playing House got 51 words in WOT and a couple preseason newswires.
Comedy Central has only itself to blame. The network fucked up its late night lineup without a solid Daily Show lead-out. @Midnight has never been a good pre-midnight series. Its ratings are even worse than The Nightly Show.
Fair. I'd give full coverage to PH and bullet points to Carmichael until now with one finished and the other in the final stretch.
Covering Friends from College while barely even noting Queen Sugar and The Carmichael Show is a crime against Peak TV.
Absent, but Noteworthy
—Missing yet again… Adventure Time!
(What should be missing: Friends from College… why?)
—Premiering on PBS, Rare: Creatures of the Photo Ark follows Nat Geo photographer Joel Sartore as he photos some of the planets rarest animals. Afterwards, a new Frontline follows former prisoners on their…
Now I'm curious what it would've been like if they had canceled the series but still done a few Movies of the Week in the following years as family/holiday reunions. (And done them with the multi-camera, studio audience format)
Sidenote: I watched CNN’s The Eighties episode on television. I wasn’t "watching" carefully throughout, but I still feel pretty confident in saying that Simon & Simon, Quantum Leap, Newhart, Fraggle Rock, Murder She Wrote, Saved by the Bell, ST:TNG, and Matlock got nothing — they were absent from the 1990s TV episode,…
