It was a good movie. It just wasn't really "The Shining."

The Kubrick movie was a great movie, no doubt about it. But it wasn't truly THE SHINING! Kubrick took the seed of the book's plot and made his own movie. that's why I think it's stupid when arguments break out between the Kubrick movie fans vs. the book/mini-series fans.
