I'm a huge horror fan and have seen all but three movies in this list. Just wanted to say: great list AV Club! I cannot think of many movies that I would add to this list, except for perhaps High Tension (which is in my view brilliant, and near-perfect, if you set aside the SPOILER ALERT twist ending).

Dude how about a spoiler alert?

This is PRECISELY the brilliance of this show, and what the reviewer inexplicably misses. Like real life, there is not necessarily a black or white way to view various events, just lots of grays. The exchange between Lorelai and Rory immediately following the dinner scene is utterly brilliant. It is exactly the way

I thought you were saying that you watched this show with your wife and also with your man. Like polyamory or something. I was so confused, but then it clicked.

Amanda Peet's soliloquy at the end of this episode was so moving. She is a really great (and very under-appreciated) actor.

I simply cannot argue with this!

"He's become a dear friend" was the icing on the cake in that monologue. Fiennes was so, so good.

Phoenix was saddled by the fact that The Immigrant was a hokey pile of shit. I loved Fiennes in Grand Budapest.

    Well said.

Carrie Coon is the second biggest "overlooked" for me (after The Lego Movie, of course).

I would very much love this. In all fairness, I haven't seen Still Alice. But my goodness Rosamund Pike was so incredibly captivating in Gone Girl. I simply couldn't take my eyes off of her when she was on the screen (also, it doesn't hurt that she is drop dead gorgeous).

I just wanted to once again register my loathing for "The Immigrant." I'm content that it was not nominated for anything, and reject any notion that it ought to have received any nomination whatsoever.

    My grammar be good.

I'm with you on the Larry/The Player thing. It just so happened that Showtime (or Epix on one of those damn things) was showing The Player at the very moment I finished watching episode 3 on DVR. Seeing them back to back and I am utterly convinced he's playing the same character.

The comment about blowing up her husband's car, and the subtle reveal that she wasn't thinking about it as a tactic for distraction, was hilarious. Pitch perfect comedic timing.

LOVED the stare-down! And the ever-so-slight and barely audible groan coupled with another very quiet sigh of relief when the boss gives her yet another pass. It's the perfect mix of office relations … on some level they are relieved to not have to deal with her nonsense, but on another level it's not fair that she

Also, the long orange extension cord that gets stretched to its limits. Perfect.

    yum!

Wasn't that movie set in Dallas?

    Very astute observation.
