My wife raised the same issue re. her bruises (and with your exact same words … "less appealing?"). I think you're on to something.

    samesies!

Boyhood? More like Borehood. You see what I did there?

Yep. My takeaway was the same as the AV Club's. No Lego Movie. Boo. That movie made me laugh and it also made me cry. I loved it.

I enjoyed it but I tend to agree with your assessment … not a lot of laughs. I'm hoping this was the case because there was a lot of table-setting to be done. I won't pass judgment just yet. Also, what the f is "mumblecore" and why would people use it to describe a television show? I'm way out of touch, man.

    Bill Cosby?

I'm a year too late on this, but can we acknowledge that this is Kirk's take on Eraserhead?! It's absolutely genius (and damn funny).

I've seen it happen here as well. The AV Club reviewed, I believe, some sort of extended episode or movie and I made a comment - similar to one of those above - that I find the obsessive adult male fans of this children's show extremely off-putting. People lost their shit.

"Sleater-Kinney’s last record, the just-okay The Woods, "

THANK YOU! The Immigrant was utter shite. Predictable, pedantic, patronizing. Just dumb.

The boy as a teenager is simply not a good actor. That was my problem with the movie.

That's precisely how I feel about The Immigrant.

    Blue Ruin was terrific.

I'm sorry but I found The Immigrant to be stylized Hollywood utter f'ing bullshit. I HATED that movie. What a load of crap.

Anyone that would question the artistic merit of Vivian's work simply knows nothing at all about photography.

No doubt. That movie is such a drag.

    Album of the year.

Ms. Zaleski appears to be the only writer with any taste for the Americana scene (if that's what we are calling it now). I also enjoyed DBT's English Oceans, Kierston White's "Don't Write Love Songs," Caleb Caudle's "Paint Another Layer on my Heart," and, my far and away album of the year: Sturgill Simpson's

Annie Zaleski - love the inclusion of Nikki Lane and, of course, Lydia Loveless. Americana had a massive year this year (with Sturgill Simpson leading the pack in my mind). Another in this category that I'm surprised didn't show up on your list: Kierston White's "Don't Write Love Songs." This gets more spins for me

This movie is ugly and I hate it. And I'll never watch it again. Also, I'm going to pick up this blu-ray tonight.
