Mirakuru was basically just super steroids, though. It wasn't giving anyone anything like the abilities of the Flash or most of his non-gun using villains. They were super strong, but could still be taken out, with difficulty, by non-powered people.

If Supergirl were to get canceled, I wonder what the logistics would be in bringing it back on a new network (CW) as has happened with other shows. I'm not sure Calista Flockheart would want to do a non-network show, but I imagine they would have to do some retooling to make the show work anyway.
