Coen Bros. + great performance by Oscar Issac + great music = worthy of top 100.

2006

"People didn't choose it because PSH is dead. People didn't choose it because it's a PTA film. They chose it because they genuinely liked the movie. Is that so hard to believe?"

In Bruges - 2008. Great film though.

Yep, had to check for In The Loop.

Google Translate's response to "Cie la vie." - Learn to spell tourist.

"even "more abstract" that The Tree of Life"

2001 certainly wasn't recognized in its time. It did have mixed reviews and lost Best Picture to Oliver! (what?) Pauline Kael called it "a monumentally unimaginative movie," and Andrei Tarkovsky dismissed it as "cold and sterile". It took temporal distance from the film as well as Kubrick directing A Clockwork Orange,

It was shown at Cannes. Interesting that the reviews are so mixed.

"Aren't we willing to give them some leeway, maybe a certain symbiotic type of thing, where we take the artist along with their art as part of the whole?"

Check out Me and Orson Welles.

Coppola has been making films about as "pretentious" as these for the past decade. No one cares because his career took a sharp nosedive since Godfather 3 but was in decline since Apocalypse Now.

Excuse me "The Narrator" but I actually didn't give an opinion on any film other that the perceived idea that they are perceived as "pretentious". But since you asked.

A turd by any other name…

The problem with pretentious films is that they only are acclaimed if the director is a known legend. If 2001 had not been directed by Kubrick, Tree of Life not been directed by Malick or The Master not been directed by PT Anderson, would any of these films be Top 10?

Yes the phase ends at age 65. Yikes.

What we need is a list of films that didn't make it but should've. Please add to the list.

Goldfinger is definitely better (quintessential Bond film), otherwise I'd take Skyfall over the rest.

That's why it's called a recency bias!

I have this thing called a pause button so I actually looked at her tits for longer than 20 seconds.
