The Faith Militant runs the kingdom now. It's likely that the High Sparrow is aware that when Cersei's case goes to trial it will become apparent that Tommen is not the rightful king. If that's his endgame, that means he probably has a replacement king in mind.
Why would she need confirmation of that rumor? She knows all about the wildfire; her brother/lover is the guy who killed the Mad King over it.

What Podrick is bringing to the table is that he's a rare source of levity and goodness in a series that often lacks both. While that doesn't save him from death in a show like this (quite the opposite really), I have a feeling the writers like him as much as we do.
