I found True Detective a great show until it fell abruptly to a mediocre and clichéd finally. I enjoyed both shows for the most part though.

What Gus did was ultimately to save his own family from what he thought was a threat to it. No more no less. We even got a clue to this in the last episode when Gus spotted Malvo but chose to keep it to himself.

The tongue-in-cheek 'We're pretty busy with the Patriot act an all' line was funny.
I don't think there has been a better episode for the 1-liners.
Oh yeah.. and the backgrounds are full of brilliant posters, pictures and placards (easter eggs?) interesting if nothing else. "Expect the unexpected" :D
