Ok, certainly a great point. There are no absolutes. Kubrick himself is an exception to the rule.

I disagree that Terry Gilliam is a hack, but I agree that he doesn't respect the source material. If you don't respect the source material, then you shouldn't be making the movie.

How was 300 ever anything other than thinly veiled homoeroticism for meatheads? I think Snyder nailed it. It's the spiritual successor to Top Gun.

Terry Gilliam is a superb director, but he was clearly the wrong man for the job.
