OK, thanks for the explanation. I'm a pretty casual reader, and I've always enjoyed how, for the most part, people at AVC had interesting points/perspectives and were generally respectful of each other. Also, tone is notoriously difficult sometimes to gauge via text alone. Plus, reading through ALL the comments,

Also, as one goes through the comments, one tends to be responding to the aggregate. My specific question maybe shouldn't have been directed at you and should've been posed to some of the more angry commenters.

Sorry. Didn't give much thought to the name (obviously). It's an inside joke (too inside) though, not a reference to blogging.

Don't mind him/her. S/he is spraying the crowd with bullets. Innocent bystanders will invariably get hit too.

Have you not checked out Kinane's albums? If not, you should! Some very good stuff there, and his darkness is quite evident.

May I hug you Cookie Monster? I never expected to see Cookie Monster and a reference to Sturgeon's Law appear remotely in the same vicinity.

I'm one of those "don't read if you don't like it" comment people. However, it's more like a question: "if you're so angry, why do you keep reading it? And why is it making you *this* angry because I really don't understand, and given the intense vitriol of some of these comments, the explanation "It's not funny"

It was meant as a compliment. Whatever. Also, not hard to do when it says "One person is typing"

ouch! remind me not to mess with you.

I really don't see how one negates the other. The fact that there's more severe evils in the world doesn't render criticism of lesser evils invalid.

Erm, can you explain something for me? Seriously, I'm not getting where all the vitriol is coming from. If you don't like a column, then why bother reading it — much less write extended comments? Of course, you're free to do whatever you wish. I just don't get why people seem so disproportionately incensed. Also,

Are feathers ever not jaunty?

So, um, don't read them?

What's the over/under on when "SJW" will make an appearance in the comments here?

So anyone with an internet connection already has so much privilege s/he should not be allowed to criticize privilege?

oooh boy! I'm following your comments almost as quickly as you're writing them! You're really stoking the fire. Watch out!

Point taken. I'm a very casual reader here and haven't read this column before (didn't even know it was a regular column), so I'm not up-to-speed on the context. That said, the level of one's privilege doesn't (shouldn't) automatically negate criticism of privilege. Her list pointed out something that most casual

Yeah, her list articulated the nature of privilege in comedy more effectively than a straight-up "earnest" essay would. Good stuff.

2) E.T.
3) Marky Mark's schlong from Boogie Nights. I would then use it to blind an immigrant before stopping 9/11.

I will also add that upon being asked whether he ever sought out said blinded gay Vietnamese man to apologize, Mr. Wahlberg assured us that was not necessary as God had already forgiven him (Mr. Wahlberg, when not potentially preventing 9/11, is a very religious man). As for the blinded man's forgiveness? Marky Mark
