I think people care about what's on HBO more than they do who and what is on real time with bill maher. CPAC definitely seems more popular to me, but if this is where we disagree there's not much we can do to convince each other.

i am pretty far on the left, and maher is free to say what he wants because that's his constitutional right, but no, i don't consider him someone the left needs as a voice. he's transphobic, islamophobic and misogynistic, and to paraphrase larry wilmore: he can go fuck himself.

i mean, you don't really have to choose between atheist asshole and cultishly devoted religious person, though. there are a ton of people who are atheistic and people who are devoutly religious and are able to do it quietly and unobtrusively.
