Chris Carter's writing will always be panned. Luckily this one had more excitement, could-this-actually-happen fright, and urgency under it to get something moving. Absolutely agreed. Although this was a noble attempt at MOW and myth arch, it would have been joyous if these stories had more room to breathe.
