read one interview that noted only a couple of boats were available in the first year; but once the series proved successful and the budget increased, they were able to build several more boats for those scenes. man, how much fun to have been a cast member rowing for those scenes.

it's pretty much speculation as noted below; but even hirst has said that he sees the show as more about ragnar's sons than ragnar… and his character really seems on the downward trajectory — the addiction; the declining health; the ever-growing list of enemies…and the repeated appearances of snakes (which hints at

his portrayal of ragnar's descent into an insane junkie is heartbreaking/maddening.
and then there's yidu… who ragnar thought the only person he could trust at this point, when all others have failed him, has turned out to be the most destructive of anyone to come into his life.
damn, this series is going to lose so

dude, they have a friggin series on 'ancient aliens'

he really is.. his ability to convey such emotion in some of these scenes is remarkable. and why he hasn't gotten an emmy for it is mystifying. actually the whole series deserves recognition.. i came late to it, assuming it was just some dopey testosterone cartoon; but everything about it — the casting, the

it was the first episode of the second season. here's the youtube clip.. bring a hanky…

beautiful writing… i tear up just reading it; and watching that scene… oy..

that scene of ragnar envisioning his past farmer's life was so sad; and he just seems so weary of it all and regretful of what he's lost. (and props to trevor morris for a perfect music score) i mistakenly watched that clip of ragnar speaking to a deceased gyda and that is one of the most intense emotional scenes

well, that's unfortunate casting.. i'm guessing once season 4 is over, basically so is the series. well, it was amazing while it lasted.

bjorn now knows the provenance of the ring and kalf is out of the way… erlendur's days are definitely numbered and torvi gets her kid back. that's a nice tidy little wrap-up.
anybody else thinking bjorn looks like he's grown an additional 6 inches. he just towers over everyone now..

seriously… that was an intensely erotic scene. and what i really like is it's not some gratuitous, sleazy scene. very well done. wanna bet that wooden bath tubs suddenly become fashionable.. lol

i just rewatched the last kingdom this weekend; and it was funny to see all of these characters being referenced that i now know about from vikings (i was very late to the program, and didn't watch it until i binge-watching a couple of months ago — my bad!)… i'm tempted to put together a flow chart of

ragnar just strikes me as so weary of it all.. and ready to check out in some spectacular way.
also, the new guy interloper — i was surprised at how he just plopped himself down in the king's chair and no one said anything.. and ubbe taking note of it all…

it should be available on cable on demand…

he should have flashed that ring when he walked in…

i just love the endless conflicts so many of these characters have to deal with… and now, poor helga… her inexplicable undying devotion to floki maybe tested by witnessing aslaug's outreach to him to teach ivar the viking ways — and deliberately undermining ragnar's influence as king and father — esp after ragnar

uh, i think bjorn proved dad wrong… damn. the fish hooks, the gutting.. i'm surprised he didn't just cut off the finger to get that ring… can't wait to see what he does to kalf and esp erlendur.

where are the extended versions of the show?

did you see the character in the series? he be nuts.
