Well they nominated Mel Gibson. He's probably as bad as Casey Affleck. Though giving Affleck a pass after Nate Parker was crucified is just a tad hypocritical.

Moana had a script, really? Repetitive, derivative, generic… 'how dumb is that chicken' as comic relief? Sing was written and directed by Garth Jennings and had a nice, sly British sense of humor which apparently threw a lot of American critics for a loop.
Sing should have been shit but it was great. Much better than Moana or the dreadful Finding Dory.
I did. Superb. The best film of 2016 animated or live action.
and who wouldn't be invited onto Jimmy Fallon to publicize it.
Probably in the licensing for songs. Still at $75m that's dirt cheap for an animated movie.
Are you aware how much animated movies cost? Obviously not. Moana cost $150 million and isn't hitting anything like Sing's box office.
Like Star Wars. Tell me a bigtime movie star whose career was ever helped by Star Wars or Marvel/DC - Harrison Ford. That's it.
You are attributing to Cruise talents he doesn't possess.. or at least is capable of expressing.
No spoilers. But wait till you see the movie….
Did he kill himself? I got the impression he was an overweight alcoholic smoker who just dropped dead of a heart attack.
I guess Walsh and Guzman have widows and orphans who may be short a buck or two..
I read about the Bre-X scandal (which is unbelievable and fascinating) after I saw the movie and heard about the connection. I'm guessing there are still a lot of relatives of those guys around who would happily sue the producers so they changed as much as they could - including names and nationalities. Walsh was…
I saw this at a test screening a few months back and liked it very much. McConaughey was tremendous. Surprised you give it a low score as, reading your review, you seemed to like it too.
There's a big push to free Wershe going on. His father sold illegal arms to gang members in Detroit, a nice little earner on the side, got recruited by the FBI and got his son involved while he was still a kid. I'm assuming the father's a villainous character.
It's based on the Bre-X mining scandal with names changed to prevent lawsuits.
Walsh and Guzman, the two guys in the Bre-X scandal are dead now (both under suspicious circumstances) but this took place in the late 90s so their widows & children are still around and no doubt have lawyers on speed dial. So they probably changed enough to avoid Their Day in Court.
I read the script when it was on the Blacklist and actually liked it, with the exception of the ridiculous ending which I figured Van Sant would change. Guess not.
Not to mention - have you seen his wife? Smokin'.
McConaughey's a true eccentric. American eccentrics are few and far between, should be cherished and are to be differentiated from the clinically insane who are supporting Donald Trump.
