if mad max: fury road was a band, it'd be thee oh sees

The sportswriting is infinitely better than the pop-culture writing. It's crazy to me that a website that consistently hires some of the best sportswriters on the internet (Zach Lowe, Ben Lindburgh, Jonah Keri, etc) can't manage to hire a single decent pop-culture writer.

The Master is to the AV Club as Boyhood is to The Dissolve

i know people who deride middlebrow bullshit like The Kids Are All Right (to choose an example from up in the thread), and then turn around and praise Boyhood. I really do not understand this.

yeah, i've heard really good things. I need to find the time to watch through it soon. S7 on a whole was pretty weak, but it had a couple of really excellent episodes.

this is fair. I really like Moffat, but he shouldn't be supreme show-leader for life.

S5 is the best season of Doctor Who, bar none. S6 ain't far behind, S7 was pretty dang okay, and I never got around to watching S8. So fuck y'all, I'm down with Moffat.

Adz is the best hands down, it's not even a question for me. I love just about everything Sufjan's done, but it's Adz.

are you still living in 2011

Alternately: the black llama may have more natural athleticism, but the white llama is all grit and scrap

of course the black llama got captured first

just wanted to pop by and say you're killin it here, anon21. keep fightin' the good fight.

Yeah, it didn't really say anything. The entire movie was basically just "look at these fucking assholes". I thought it was a lot of fun and very, very entertaining, but there was no grand point it was trying to make.

I thought Selma was really timely and powerful and different from the normal biopic junk, but yeah, that's fair.

You could say the gimmick/huge undertaking thing about Birdman too. There was nothing distinctive about Linklater's direction or style in Boyhood IMO, and the fact that it took a long time doesn't really change that.

I actually thought it was a pretty strong year. There were 4 nominees I really loved (Selma, Birdman, Budapest, and Whiplash) and one that I personally hated but a lot of people I respect loved so w/e (Boyhood).

just wait for the boyhood backlash backlash to start up and you'll be good

Honestly I wouldn't have minded if Selma, Whiplash, or Budapest won. I hated Boyhood a lot.

can't wait for the weirdly huge birdman backlash to start up again
