But in neither Thor nor Avengers is Loki meant to be a near-unstoppable master villain.  In Thor he is pretty much just angsty and hurt, and in Avengers he is clearly not the one pulling the strings - it is more than suggested that he's being manipulated or forced by Thanos.  I feel like it's to Hiddleston's credit…
