He smoked in last week's episode. It was shot from John's back so it wasn't Standards&Practices obvious, but he definitely smoked on screen.
(plus there were three references to it without directly showing him smoke)

Thing is "an original tune that sort of resembles the sound of another artist" is a kind of parody (and I can thing of many Weird Al songs like that). Parodies don't have to target one specific thing.

Wrong. Black Books was created by Dylan Moran. Graham Linehan contributed to the first series, though.

The episode title lengths suggest a 7 season length and a 1-2-3-4-3-2-1 pattern. (I also think the Kings went on record about 7 seasons but I can't find it)
