I prefer Tony as well. I don't know if I just always like better the first person introduced or what. But I prefer Tony.
Although it occurs to me that Mary is a fighter and, like it was with Mathew, she may prefer the man she can fight with. ie Charles.

Now that you point it out, I didn't either. I wonder if that will stay true in the episodes to come. And it makes me sad.

I decided the contrived reasons to get them back was another meta commentary or lampshading on how contrived sitcoms are in general.

I have never seen Goodfellas and I thought this episode was excellent.
