This is an area of some expertise for me, as I've read all of Christopher's History of Middle Earth series, and I see what you're saying. At the same time, I don't think "more relaxed" would lead to any Tweeting. He *would* probably have kept refining, even radically changing, what happened in the published works.

Joaquin Phoenix and Sam Elliott need to stay AWAY from self-parody, the lowest form of comedy. Denzel and Liam, though, it would actually help, because they keep playing overstuffed dramatic parodies of themselves that need puncturing.

I went to an estate sale and got several DVDs for a song: Gone with the Wind, 2001, Beetlejuice, Dr. Strangelove, Doctor Zhivago, and Das Boot (director's cut.) I haven't watched any yet, but of course I've seen them all before.
