It's such contrived nostalgia, and I dislike both of those things. And nobody explains the problem with "midnight train going anywhere" like John Hodgman (though I've never heard him apply this rule to this song; for all I know he may love the song) when he tells people that "specificity is the soul of narrative."

Despite being a big Elton John fan, I also used to dislike that song quite a bit. What turned me around was reading the lyrics. I never used to understand them, and once I read them and realized how incomprehensible they are, I guess I developed a soft spot for the oddness of it.

Well-said.

I'd get reamed for it, but yes: "Don't Stop Believing."

That's a mic-drop.

"Christine Irene" by the Gin Blossoms is pretty catchy.

That lyric, with a different pronoun, is also used in "The Dutchman" by (or at least recorded by? probably by, I'm not going to look it up though; not going to confirm the title, either, too lazy) the late, great Steve Goodman. Goodman was a great lyricist, and that lyric "works" in the context of "The Dutchman," but

I don't see how the first one is any better than streaming. The second one would be good if you only want a few songs every now and then, but on a larger scale it's no more affordable than a 10 dollar CD. And yes, I am saying people can't afford 10 dollar CDs.

Glad to hear it. I know I'm not personally following up on it. I mean, it's Blink-182. But thanks for doing the dirty job so we don't have to.

Streaming is not the most ethical way to get music, but it's the only affordable way for most people, and it's marginally better than outright theft.

If we don't get a movie showing Dengar's wedding with Boba Fett as best man (IIRC this really, actually, truly happened canonically inasmuch as the early expanded universe novels are canon) then what are we even doing this for?

The fact that it actually aired is surprising. I would have thought it would have remained more in our consciousnesses.

My favorite local radio show (hell, my favorite radio show anywhere), Across the Pond, is back on the air on a new home with a new name after a few months' hiatus. Very well-curated Celtic music with a Texas flavor. It can be heard live every Sunday from 4-6PM Central on sunradio.com.

I watched Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" and MST3K's "Santa Claus" and both were faaaantastic.

Think of it as 12 Angry Men for a younger set.

Right, bad. Not irrelevant.

Oh, you'd win that bet. I accumulate more than I consume. I guess the next pissing match should be the number of finished ones, right?

I'm not so sure, but it's certainly possible given the ending.

The end of The Breakfast Club is a travesty, particularly the makeover and at least one of the pair-offs, if not both of them. Up until that point, it's a work of genius. After that, it's a flawed work of genius.

You didn't read the article before venting your spleen, did you?
