The show runner is gay, I think he tried to force that storyline in the show. I guess he thought interlacing it with scenes of hetero sex made him think it was more palpable for regular audiences.

I think he said, "when you decide your life is more important than
others" - when he was talking about taking another person's life.

The Dorian Gray story is boring and forced. It needs to go. Like others here have stated the John Clare storylines uninteresting as well. Everything else is great.
