"If King is one of the few horror aficionados in the world to dislike Kubrick’s Shining, he is almost assuredly the only one who prefers the second version over it." - he's not the only one. I think that Kubrick's "Shining" was boring as hell.
The miniseries, even if it was on low budget, have an atmosphere.
