I felt the same way you did about the way these characters acted. It was probably the most frustrating aspect of the show for me. It didn't feel real or believable most of the time.
Rafael would need to get a personality first.
I don't understand how anyone could have possibly believed she's his birth mother given all the times she attempted to seduce him. Not to mention the blatant sexual undertones in their relationship.
Let's not forget what happened to the actress who played Ros. When she told them she wanted to actually wear clothes, they killed her off. Of course in a horrifically sexualized way.

He's been getting way too much screen time not to make it to the finale. As it's been said before, the editing on this show is very predictable and Andrew/Jenna have gotten the most.
Cory isn't shy or introverted at all yet I can't remember him getting more than one talking head. And he only got screen time during the challenges where he had to pair up with another kid.
It's going to be Andrew and Jenna in the finale. Yawn.
