Thanks for pointing out the very different IRA's which many critics miss. I had never realized the religious extremist side of the IRA at that time until reading more about 1916 this year. Seems like a lot of the more socialist leaders were the ones executed and the ones left over were more religious.

In fairness MLB is not setting the rules. Some sportscasters and some ball players are. In the NFL the league actually fines you and penalizes you for celebrating or not following strict uniform codes.

It seems like it would be hard to force in some scenes about the genocide into a movie about Australians and Turks talking about the battle they fought years earlier. If they did shoehorn in a few minutes I'm sure people would complain that only 5 minutes on a whole genocide is an insult as well

I think some of the "distraction" issues raised about Michael Sam are valid. The media will make it a distraction even if his teammates don't care. After a good game a teammate won't be asked about his performance or the other team's strategy, instead it will be about Sam's sexuality.
