Maybe the studios have done research and find that no one likes female lead roles in movies? Or maybe there's just a ton of great stories to tell that include a male role. Should they not be made into great films just cause there's not enough female lead films?

So now, to make people (girls) happy, Hollywood has to (no matter what) come out with female roles that are empowering and more realistic and fair? And the films have to be 50% or more of what's in theaters? Now you're making rules for art. I think the problem is that there ARE films that meet these requirements and

That's cause you're awesome haha. And everyone should see them both!

Wow, this is what I mean by no one will ever be happy with how things are done. The example is a sample of what's happening in Hollywood films. What's an acceptable number for you then?

If seeing a girl die in horror movies makes my piss come to a boil every time, WHY would i keep going to horror movies? So I have something to complain about?!

Well in that case no personal exerience would hold true for *everyone*. But we're talking about film and it's subjective, so maybe that's the point.

Think you're taking too literally. But that's good to hear. More girls shouldn't put a relationship as a do or die scenario.

Experiential knowledge I guess. This is my experience, it's not any less valid. Just something I've noticed from 20-something girls. Being in a relationship is top priority. With good reason. And I know guys that want a girlfriend badly as well. That's life. So why not portray that in movies? It's relateable.

Yeah, I get that. But there are lots of films where women have their own goals. It's happening more and more i think. The Heat, for one, was a great example.

For frequent movie watchers, women still make up more of the frequent moviegoers in the 18-24 category. Now what do you think an 18-24 year old girl wants to see? Philomena? Or Magic Mike? And it's a business mind you, so this shapes what gets made.

Fine, you're the exception. That would be scary.

If you try to please one group you'll piss off another. It's just ridiculous. To people the women that are sooo bothered by this maybe they should stop watching male driven movies?

haha, really? There isn't a girl i know whose worst fear is being alone.
I have friends that fly to other continents to be with a guy. Friends
that marry after a month of dating and more girl friends that are in
relationships just for the sake of being with a guy. Ask a girl if she
*wants* to be single, you'll be

Many do, and the men who write them write great male leads. There are many great female writers and directors, but still male leads are most prevalent….

I think people still have a 1920's version of female roles stuck in their heads. I just saw the sequel to 300 and Eva Green is the main villian. She's not a reward but a force to be reckoned with. Sooo things have leveled out as of late. A guy can just as easily say men shouldn't be treated like an object to win

Yes. I do. I was merely stating a point. "Create" is what I meant.

lol

From my experience getting a man is a huge goal for women. (lol) But that shouldn't be excluded to just women that seek a relationship. The Devil Wears Prada, Juno or even Mean Girls have bigger goals than getting a guy. Not everyone will agree and be happy with how things are done. Spring Breakers could just have

This probably has to do with there being way more male screenwriters who write what they know. And when the do write a female protag, there's always a group of people that explode in outrage that it's "not realistic". You don't like it, write your own film. Or maybe it's just more entertaining to see male leads? But
