My theory is pacing/editing. I think that the writing hasn't really dipped all that much, but for some reason more episodes in the last season felt like the pacing was off by just a hair.

The jazz was at least better than the jazz singer's accent.

He needs to meet a professional woman in the course of his land management stuff. You know, he and Mary schedule a meeting with a Dr. Smith to discuss engineering developments that may help the land. They get there, wait in the office, and a woman comes in and starts talking and shuffling through papers, etc. Mary:

I think the conversation— "I know what kind of man you are" —was intended to suggest that he's gay. Or at least that she thinks he is.

I've seen her in other things, but never felt like she could act anyone out of the water. Which she is 100% doing here. I'm very impressed with her!

Yeah, agreed. I'd even say solid A for this episode. Sure, there were maybe some problems, but I watched the whole thing on the edge of my seat, hands gleefully clasped together with an idiot grin on my face.

Your screenname makes me trust your authority on Dubliner accents.

I agree this season has been fan-service-y. But I think I liked that? The fan service in this episode didn't sacrifice plot or characterization.

I don't think she's a Mary Sue. First of all, just by definition, I don't think she's a stand-in for Moffat. Second, I think she's not idealized. She's a foil for Sherlock, and has many of the same problems he does. She might not be fully realized, but I think she's standout in Moffat's stable of female characters.

If Branson leaves, I leave.

I adored that sketch. Howled with laughter and rewound to watch again. Like you, I'm a big theater fan—they nailed every little tic.

This is the one sketch I want SNL to make regular. Just a half hour of Kyle Mooney awkwardly asking Times Square tourists for their opinions.

Rob Brydon on Jinsy!

Same! I shrieked and my hands flew to my face like Macauley Culkin. I am so excited!

Anyone else as excited about the Emily Mortimer/Dolly Wells buddy sitcom "Doll & Em" as I am? Best TV news in a while!

Seriously, it's crazy. I don't know if sometime around age 27 he made some deal with a sartorial devil or if there's a portrait of him in sweats and a polo shirt in an attic somewhere, but: good on you, PFT. .

Bernadette Peters's hair should have won its own Oscar for this.

Uncle is on tonight, as well. 10pm, BBC 3

I would watch a shot-for-shot remake of the entire Bosom Buddies pilot with that cast.

They're good people but they're terrible TV watchers. Why do you think I spend so much time here?
