How is Lulu not hot garbage? It's just Lou Reed talking (not even singing) over the most boring and generic metal riffs that they could probably come up with while in a coma. It's straight trash, and I wouldn't even consider it a Metallica album.

Definitely. Metallica has always run on the strength of James and whatever bassist they have, while Kirk is meh and Lars is subpar for the caliber of band that Metallica is. I still maintain that James is one of the best all-time songwriters in all of rock.

I'm totally with you there. It's quality stuff, but it lacks the Metallica magic that has me coming back to their albums. I constantly listen to a handpicked playlist of Metallica songs, and I have songs from every one of their albums in there except for Death Magnetic.

Look up the drum battles between James and Lars during the Black Album era. James is actually a better drummer than Lars!

My take is that this album has some really bright moments, but everything else is meh. For example, Spit out the bone is one of their best songs since Justice, but Confusion is trash.
