Arrival is great, but I think it fits more into the category of "high-concept, high-budget, adult-oriented sci-fi" along with The Martian, Interstellar, and that one where Johnny Depp becomes a computer (hey, they can't all be winners).
Those movies would have been way better if they'd just been Chris Evans lying on a table, preferably shirtless, staring directly into the camera.
Either that or Chris Evans' rendition of "Josie's Got a Gun" from Not Another Teen Movie

I picked up "Look at Me" by Jennifer Egan in a bookstore only because I thought the cover looked cool. I had never heard of her or the book, but I ended up loving it and a couple years later she won a Pulitzer for "Welcome to the Goon Squad."

Wow. I finished Underground Airlines in 4 days and found it totally engrossing. I do support the idea that if I don't find a book compelling enough to finish it in two weeks it's probably not a book worth reading (Anna Karenina comes to mind as an exception)
