A fair point about that glibness. This is a recurring fault in New Who, they just can't resist the urge to show off with a quick laugh that does not serve - and may even be detrimental to -the story. My belief it is due to the influence of Buffy, which was brilliant and managed to carry off such 'quippery';

It was really excellent. Easily one of the best of the modern era. Standouts were That Speech and Evil Clara, but there was plenty about this that was very good and not really anything that was bad. No glaring plot holes. No set-ups with no pay off. No lazy Deus ex Machina. No smug 'cleverness', no Eastenders in
