Thanks much for the suggestions, I'll check them out.

Yeah, me too.  For the first few dozen pages, I was nervous about the narration style - usually I can't stand that kind of hyper-stylized tone, and the use of that at times too cutesy and self-consciously young-and-hip slang terminology rubbed me the wrong way.  But then I just sort of fell into the pace and rhythm of

Will do, thanks for the tip.  I find Simmons' other work so frustrating, at times.  I was bored to tears by Drood, hated everything other than the clever premise of Flashback, and liked (but didn't love) Summer of Night, Winter of Night, and Hyperion.  But again, The Terror is SO GOOD.

This was the year that my wife and I finally got around to watching Friday Night Lights, which we've been promising to do for years, and good lord has it not disappointed.  Clear eyes, full hearts, indeed.

This is a great reading of the series as a whole, and a great post.  It certainly explains nicely Chase's absolute refusal to allow us, as the series went on, any glimpses of Tony in a sympathetic light.  It's pretty well established that Chase was openly hostile towards his main character, and was increasingly

Hear, hear.  Thanks very much Keith.  Over the past ten-plus years, there hasn't been a day that has gone by in my life where I haven't checked in here at least once.  This is truly my favorite place on the internet, genuinely unique amongst a very crowded, oft-irritating landscape of places to go to discuss pop

I will never understand why people seem to hate that movie so much.  I think it's actually pretty great.  Besides that it looks amazing, Hanks is very good in it, really underplaying his dialogue and reactions, but doing really well with the physical aspects of the part. Paul Newman is cast a bit against type himself
