I will never understand why people seem to hate that movie so much.  I think it's actually pretty great.  Besides that it looks amazing, Hanks is very good in it, really underplaying his dialogue and reactions, but doing really well with the physical aspects of the part. Paul Newman is cast a bit against type himself

Yes.  I get the chills literally every single time I hear this song, which I try to make as often as possible during this season.  It's so pretty and haunting and just slightly hopeful, that perfect mix.

Seconded on TC Boyle - he's right up your alley.  Start with Drop City, or Water Music, or Friend of the Earth, or World's End.  Do NOT start with The Women.

I believe so.  Both of them had New Orleans in common and wrote about it a lot.  The Moviegoer is set there, too.

Yeah, I'm with PoseyHipster.  I wouldn't go so far as to call it a disappointment, but it just feels very minor to me (in scope, ambition, style, etc.) compared to Chabon's other work, which is just so god damned good.  Also, I frequently found myself taken out of the narrative by either some strange story choice he

Yeah, great to see a few mentions of this wonderful book, and Walker Percy in general.  As I said below, try "Love in the Ruins" or "Lancelot" as well, you won't be disappointed.

The Moviegoer is a great book, and so is Walker Percy.  If you enjoy that one, try "Love in the Ruins" or "Lancelot."

Just finished Michael Chabon's last, Telegraph Avenue, which I enjoyed (although not as much as some of his other work).  Now in the middle of Don Winslow's Savages, which is fucking awesome.

Yeah, for whatever reasons I'm always embarassed to admit this but I don't mind this show, and not just because I'm a big Patton fan.  There was a stretch where Mrs. Megaphone and I didn't have cable and wound up watching a lot of syndicated sitcoms on local basic channels, including KoQ and Everybody Loves Raymond,

One of the things I cherish most in the world is an extremely battered vinyl copy of the Dead's "Europe 72."  It's my favorite live album by any band, ever, to this day, even though the Dead haven't been in heavy listening rotation in my life for close to 15 years.

I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter, sign your petition, take one of your flyers, etc.  Mostly, though, I guess I'd like to punch these assholes in the face.
