Well you would assume wrongly. Might be a lesson there.

The problem is that people, usually males, will latch on to any cause that allows them to abuse women. So a lot of the people screaming at her online might describe themselves as allies, but are in reality just cunts.

It would be very easy for you to find many examples of people threatening Rowling with violence. But even easier to just carry on thinking she's another one of those.hysterical, lying women.

This is mainly bullshit. You are misinformed

she literally wrote an entire op-ed piece comparing trans people to rapists”

Mayne they could include a scene about liberal American’s inability to blame anyone but themselves for Trump's victory?

I can’t remember, were they ever explicit that that character was trans?

I know this is going to sound kind of combative, but if you genuinely, hand-on-heart believe Allen’s relationship with Soon-yi is just as fucked up as a man marrying his daughter, then you're very, very sick. But I don't think you, or anyone else, genuinely, hand-on-heart believe that.

Sure, but I think it’s fair to say it would be an awful lot worse if she actually had been his daughter. And it isn’t really acceptable to on more than one occasion accuse someone of marrying their daughter, which the av club has done.

Patronising linguistic colonialism deserves to be sneered at.

No, there’s nothing wrong with Latin, Hispanic etc. Latinx is a word used by mainly white liberals to make themselves feel righteous. The word is barely used by the people it refers to.

Yeah, kinda thought we were done with that term once it became apparent that the vast majority of Hispanic people don’t and won’t use it.

Well that’s a shame, but it just never really worked with Dzotsi.

Yeah watching stories like this about real, living people, I’m always on the fence about whether it’s fair or responsible. Even watching something like The Social Network makes me a bit uncomfortable.

This is a very stupid argument.

But the phrase objected to was “silly old man”. Which is like being sexist for calling a woman “silly woman”. Or being racist for calling a black man “stupid black man”.

I think her response might be a little over the top, but it’s easy to forget that even mild violence is really shocking, particularly when it’s so unexpected.

Oh cop onto yourself. She promoted her work on social media.

It’s also counterproductive. People like me who didn’t watch the Oscars would never have heard that joke if he hadn’t drawn attention to it.

This is interesting because it’s not at all what I understood but the term punching down, but it seems like I’m in the minority here.
