Didn’t know Michael B. Jordan was in it. Saw him in the trailer and was like “Oh shit. Excitement level going to 11.” It’s really nice to see a big time movie that is unashamedly African in feel, not just using Africa as scenery or how whites experience Africa.

Larry Wilmore’s show got cancelled after two seasons. Real time is on it’s 15th or 16th. That alone is evidence that we live in a twisted universe.

My god. Incredibly brutal. The driver was found and jailed yesterday. You’re right, it’s mostly not getting coverage outside Washington and native media, although it did get covered in U.S. News & World Report.

The boys could perhaps be shown jobs as sex slaves?

Not all the morons are teenagers and in their early 20s (or in their 60s and 70s like professional Rethuglicans).

Between this shit and dealing with my middle school kids at the end of the school year I’ll be surprised if I have a functioning liver at the end of the month!

I am legit mildly surprise by how the city has handled this thus far. Expected way more resistance from the city government. Either he doesn’t have many friends in the department, the city has actually learned from previous national examples, and/or they want to head off problems. I’ll take any of these at the moment.

SIDEBAR: How the fuck did 39HelensAgree get ungrayed?

I’m not disagreeing with any of this but I imagine that increased numbers of black teachers might have a positive impact on white teachers in the same schools, too. Like white teachers might think a little more carefully about the way they treat black students if they have to justify those decisions to black

I never know what to say to people whose parents didn’t accept them. It’s something that, as a mother myself, I just don’t understand. Everybody deserves to have parents that love them unconditionally, and it’s a damn shame that not everybody gets that.

Nah.

My heart bleeds seeing Chance the Rapper in the company of Lil Wayne and Justin Beiber. You’re better than this, Chance.

If you’ve never watched the HBO special she did like thirteen years later, which really marked her return to popularity in a lot of ways, she does an AMAZING opener about this whole thing and the years that followed, set to interpretive dance. It’s hard to overstate exactly how much of a career killer this was for her

I saw this as a twenty-something and I remember thinking how monumentally courageous this was. I had been watching the show when it was still called “These Friends of Mine”.

So what you are saying is that you don’t understand how black women’s hair works versus white women’s hair and how Shea Moisture even became a thing and you should just not have commented really.

What is this internalised misogyny of which you speak? Is it widespread?

LOL

I really don’t get people crapping on Anne Hathaway. She’s always seemed so intelligent; kind; well-spoken; humble; NOT assholelish at all. Maybe she seemed a bit pretentious for a hot minute there, I guess? But, like, who gives a crap. That’s pretty harmless, in the grand scheme of things.

Um, yes he did. Before the concentration camps there was the Einsatzgruppen which went to towns, gathered up the unwanted and shot them all.
