Do the newer TDI’s not have EGR related carbon build up in the intake manifold? When I put a head on mine (freak TB accident by my own stupidity) I cleaned out the intake manifold, it was terrible after only about 110k miles. roughly a dime shaped hole open from what was once a 2 inch channel.

Maybe, I don’t know who Doug is though...

Well, the emissions delete on the earlier cars is pretty cheap, a couple hundred for the pipe and block off plates for the EGR and then if you cant stand the CEL another $350 for a tune.

That is interesting... What kind of issues did you have with the 12V?

:( Unfortunately as the cars get cheaper to buy they are attracting a different crowd.

As an OCD Engineer who owns a TDI I can confirm this statement. I even park over a cardboard sheet so I can see oil leaks early.

Nerd ::thumbs up::

I feel like this is a result of our modern development cycle. We have come to expect large continuous changes form products and the auto industry has struggled to keep up. Maybe they are just shifting to a tic-toc cycle like you see in tech sectors.

Much like boobs, who the fuck cares.

The snark is well informed, thats why its so funny! I worked for a top 3 defense contractor for a while, and then for NAVAIR as a contractor.

Note that I actually think these are great, and as long as they don’t specialize it too much should be a cheap solution that adds capability.

This will cost $1 million dollars per unit after they add safety and reliability requirements that then must be verified.

“[you can read that as regular cars like the ones you buy from a dealership]”

Timing belt most likely.

What a terrible, safe place to inhabit.

Thank god for this article. We have a Ford Focus Electric for my lady, and when I drive it I have been telling her that I see this effect, but she says I’m crazy.

Ask for forgiveness not permission. ;)

I ripped apart the entire engine harness tracking down what I was sure to a be bad ground wire somewhere in the headlight circuit on my 1994 Pathfinder.

No I totally agree, that’s why I said that if it were 08-12 I would agree that the 2004 R32 were better. But its not, its 2016 and we have the Golf R now, which I was saying is every bit as good as the R32, if not better.

Uh, yeah we will.
