My biggest issue was with the editing that created all the confusion. Much of the shit people bring up was very easily explained by deleted scenes.

Except he didn't have the mapping equipment. He took his helmet off around the time they found the body and walked off without it. He put it back on to smoke weed when they finally made it back.
You stretch him out, he goes back to his original shape. It didn't take much to entertain eight year old boys in the Seventies.
It's a testament to Netflix's flexibility.
