While I hope the only thing in Trump’s future is a prison cell, felons being able to run for office isn’t a bad thing in a free society. Look at Russia, which bans felons from running, and how many of Putin’s political adversaries that suddenly develop criminal charges.

I assume the rules were set up so that people can’t jail their political opponents under bullshit charges to keep them from winning elections. But clearly there needs to be a carve out for situations like this
