I’ve fucking had it with monarchies being presented as not bad, actually, as long as you have a Benign Ruler™.

Agree. Coopting anti-power movements is as old as time; think about all the countless rock bands with consistent anti-corporate messages... who are on major labels and play big venues, working with the likes of Ticketmaster or whoever. For a long time I’ve felt like populist messaging in music primarily functions as a…
I would dearly love to see Pixar do more movies focused on adult themes; not, like, sex and violence and swearing, but something that in no way involves childhood or adolescence. The Pixar films I like the most (Ratatouille and A Bug’s Life) involve protagonists who are still young but very clearly coded as adults, or…
The cynic in me says that Disney would put the kibosh on anything too overtly anti-corporate.
I’ve noticed the shift toward the “painterly” 3D animation style in the last few years, among big-budget mainstream animation. As far as I can tell (and I may be wrong), this kicked off with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. Other animation studios had their eyes opened, and started working on films that…
My two cents, feel free to debate: I feel like the relatively tepid critical reception (I do not care about box office) of Pixar’s last several years’ worth of original films (as opposed to sequels) is because their blend of whimsy and deep emotion (with stellar writing, plotting, and casting) was pretty amazing for a…
Yeah, I mean, can you imagine making a movie out of something where you just build with blocks? How could that possibly work?
“What’s the deal with the munchies?”
Cannot wait.
I don’t know if Unfrosted is enjoyable while sober, but it was pretty fun to watch while high. Which is funny because Seinfeld seems like the kind of guy who avoids cannabis because it makes him anxious and paranoid.
Wealthy men always think everyone wants to hear their opinion.
Huh, I never actually realized that that scene has no shots they’re both in.
I’m assuming it’s Wolfs and not Wolves because of some joke in the movie where they both claim to be a lone wolf, and one of them says they’ll have to be lone wolfs together, leading to an argument about whether you’re still a lone wolf if you’re hanging out with another wolf.
Let’s hope Sauron doesn’t force him to sodomize a pig.
Moana, Mo’ Problems
I did start to notice the music quite a bit when I saw, uh, the TV Glow. I especially liked the cover of “Tonight, Tonight” by Smashing Pumpkins that shows up about... what, halfway through? Worked super well.
Looked perfectly fine when I saw it on the big screen. I wish there was more visibility (heh) into how streaming services actually store and serve their media, so that we could make apples-to-apples comparisons in these kinds of conversations.
I had Eggs Benedict for breakfast for this?
Okay, then let me amend my comments to say “generative AI LLMs like ChatGPT and its ilk.” Although I did just look at the Alphafold Wikipedia page, and its “Limitations” section sounds suspiciously like “this gets certain kinds of things wrong a lot, so you need to manually assess its results every time anyway.” Which…
I can’t tell whether you think I think reputation economies are utopic.
