I gave up on the show largely because of that scene (really, it was the proverbial straw), so I don’t know if Rhaenys’s characterization since then treats that incident as a fluke, or what; but it wasn’t so much that she did that as a character as it was that the showrunners clearly meant it to be a “kickass” moment,

Rhaenys and Corlys are good people.

Does it make you feel older to hear that I knew about them in the ‘90s? Or younger? I’m not sure how time works.

We did watch the first one (...while high) and the only thing I remember about it is their nosy same-sex neighbors who I thought of as Gay and Silent Bob.

Thrones devoid of anyone to really root for

:thinks: I think you’ve convinced me, more or less, that if Biden steps down, Harris is the obvious choice, and has a good chance of winning. I still don’t know if she has a better chance of winning than Biden, but... it’s very possible.

My main concern with Harris is that because our nation is still so damn racist and misogynist, a woman of color is going to turn off (through no fault of her own) some of the fence-sitters who might prefer an old, feeble white guy. Of course I have no idea how likely that is.

Ok, fair enough, we’re on the same page more or less (although I think I’m a little more sanguine about Biden’s chances).

I mean, it’s entirely possible to take those weaknesses seriously and still conclude that retaining Biden is the best of a bunch of shitty options. A lot of people have come to that conclusion. A lot of other people have concluded the opposite. I’m not saying either position is right or wrong, just that people

I always find it kind of hilarious when people use presidential elections as a valid sample size for anything. Every single election for the past quarter century has had highly educated and respected pundits confidently asserting that X would happen, and then being dead wrong.

No; in New York you can appeal a conviction as soon as the sentence is passed, and if you do, the sentence is put on hold until the appeal is heard, which can take months. He would not under any circumstances have been in prison this past weekend.

Without data, it’s just speculation either way, tbh.

Well, of course it just turned out to be a regular Friday, after the resistance sent a T-800 back in time to help Sarah and John Connor avoid being killed.

Oh my god, I completely forgot that existed. I think I saw one AVC article, shook my head in dismay-slash-wonder, and promptly memory-holed it.

Would I have gotten more out of RN if I’d seen MI3 and 4? Maybe, but probably not much.

I think the actual issue people care about (specifically, Muslims care about) is that when Muslim characters show up at all they are way too often depicted as terrorists. I don’t have any data on it one way or the other and I’m not Muslim, so please don’t take this as, like, a personal attack.

“Jackanapery” would have worked, I suppose.

Those puppies know what they did.

The Devil and Daniel Webster Both Wear Prada

I think the idea is that Richie is a highly charismatic meathead, and very much not the kind of person who “cycles through” a place like Ever. As such he quickly makes friends and left a big impression, and has clearly kept in touch.
