I’m surprised that the Las Vegas Blvd, straight wasn’t more of a disaster. I expected that normal daytime traffic between sessions would drop all manner of crap (antifreeze, oil, cigarette butts, used condoms etc.) onto the surface, which would cause issues. Track crews must have been busy prior to the sessions.

I’ve seen a VW television ad for the id4, where a nice old grandma test drives a new EV...then promptly starts doing smoky donuts in a parking lot! Can’t wait for the nannies to ban that one too.

From what I can see from the surveillance video, the car was headed towards the toll gate, then ended up flying into the US Customs booths, where traffic comes from Canada! Hence the assumption it was a vehicle entering from Canada.

But yet Jimmy Kimmel has moved past The Man Show without any damaging baggage.

Even though Full Self-Driving was not engaged, don’t the cars have a Self-Preservation mode that would prevent a catastrophic event like this? Seems like an oversight on Elon’s part.

It’s a long road back from oblivion, and IndyCar is only just returning to my radar. Back in the day, (mid-80s to mid-90s) the CART series was the premier racing series, which was more entertaining than F1, with Fittipaldi, Mansell, Villeneuve, Montoya etc. bringing worldwide attention.

I’m sure none of the same people are still calling the shots at F1, but foolish decision making must be a job requirement of sorts; like the 1978 season schedule, when Montreal was the final event of year, in October! Not surprisingly, that event holds the record for coldest F1 event, at 5 degrees C (40F).

I’ll have to test drive some new Mazdas and compare. The BMW design language has gone all ‘angry beaver’, so the more classic Mazda styling is appealing. I also like the idea of the inline-6 in a CX-70. But a plug in hybrid is interesting as well.

The crash happened while he was with Top Gear, so that’s the best association. Agreed, the headline could be more accurate. (Pretty much par for the course with any media these days).

I do hope Mazda continues to grow. They have a chance to suck sales from Toyota/Honda to prevent people from moving upmarket to Lexus/Acura. I’ve been a Mazda fan for years, and had a Mazda6 Wagon (manual) and a CX-9. They were both more engaging to drive than competing vehicles, even in the FoMoCo years.
