Work function. I was too dumbfounded to say anything. A male coworker told them off.

I’m a rather simple person, but reading through all of this back and forth is quite amazing.
and some of the people she sees took years to get to the point of seeking help. some of them are forced to go by court order and come to understand after months of therapy that they had a messed up understanding of women/sex/the world/consent/sex e.t.c.
I tend to agree. I would say at least half of the men I have dated pushed the boundaries with me sexually. I told them my limits, they tried to push just beyond them and if I experienced pleasure they used that “against” me to show how I actually wanted to do whatever thing I had verbally told them I did not want to…
empathy is a HUGE part of the puzzle- but there are two other factors working against this.
I feel you, really I do.... and my immediate gut reaction is the same as yours. However, my best friend who is a survivor of CSA did essentially just that. She provides therapy to sex offenders who seek treatment of their own volition to try to understand and change their behaviour and also to those who are made to do…
Some were holding signs identifying Turner as a rapist-fair enough I suppose. How do you feel about the ones which are thinly veiled rape threats? Real Question. Do you feel they’re acceptable? not acceptable but understandable?
really? calling this person a rapist because they want to examine something a little more critically and deeply than “He a monster” which serves only to help us all feel safe because we don’t know any monsters.
Agree with you in theory. Characterizing rapists as “monsters” does perpetuate rape culture or at the very least works against the efforts to fight rape culture. However- when the means we have to deal with issues like this are not taking the issue seriously I understand the outrage and vigilantism that comes about.…
Exactly. Protest is one thing, but armed protest? Get the fuck out. That’s no longer protest, it’s intimidation with a deadly weapon.
OMG, reading your words, my blood pressure went quite a bit up. Maybe it’s because I never really admitted even to my friends, or even to myself that this was something not entirely consensual... It’s a great relief being able to share this in a safe space.
I’m not by any means defending the father’s overall statement, which was entirely inappropriate, but in my line of work I deal every day with people’s sloppy use of language and I suspect he didn’t mean “20 minutes of action” as a synonym for “20 minutes of sex” but in the sense of “his actions over a span of 20…
I don’t think I’ve read all your comments but from what I’ve read, you’re talking a lot of sense and I appreciate your trying to elevate the conversation.
I personally believe this kid should be rotting in jail for a long time. I also pretty sure that these open carry idiots are damn near as pathetic as the rapist and looking for an excuse to brandish there substitutes for manhood. And could care less about the victims. I also believe that anyone who says that they are…
It seems people don’t want to believe that PTSD can happen to a “bad guy”. As if the criteria for diagnoses requires passing some sort of morality test, or having been an innocent victim in their trauma.
You can get PTSD from events that you actively participated in. Tons of soldiers have it some with war crimes that they committed being the focus of it.
Jesus Christ. “If”? If someone says they were raped, is it that hard to believe them? Or do all victims have to act the way you think they should?
As you’ve already demonstrated, making assumptions about people you don’t know so as to confirm you pre-existing ideological narratives is kind of what you do.
I think it is wonderfully pessimistic that you think people can’t change. Sure, he probably won’t, but everyone deserves time and a chance.
I DO work on changing gun laws (why would you assume I did not?). I also work on convincing people that violence is NOT the way to prevent more violence. The only purpose of guns is killing. If you don’t mean to kill someone, don’t have a gun.
