“just about every star wars fan with any sort of credibility loved it,critics and general audiences love it.” When you start talking about someone else’s “credibility” based on whether or not they agree with you, you lose all of yours. Consider your arguments invalid and dismissed.
We can’t just start killing people just because of cost or convenience (IMO). We have LOTS of people dependent on society due to birth defects, disease, drugs, accidents, etc., but it is a slippery slope to decide to start terminating people based on cost and convenience.
I think the coat hanger probably did most of the condemning in this situation.
Because once humans are viable, we don't just let them die in emergency medicine scenarios.
Someone probably said it already, but 24 weeks gestation = viability, so it would be unethical to not resuscitate a neonate at that age since statistically it has a high chance of survival outside the womb.
She attempted the abortion, she didn’t succeed in terminating the pregnancy. The baby was still alive. By law, they have to treat it.
Legally the doctors’ first duty is towards the patient(s). The baby was outside the womb and not deceased; thus, they had a legal and ethical duty of care towards it.
Resuscitate the fetus? Oh, you mean save the baby. Why would they try to save a baby?
i’m infinity percent pro choice, but once the fetus is out and if it is alive, then yeah, they should treat the baby like any other premature baby—now some parents can choose for a very ill/injured/etc baby to receive only palliative care after birth, but for whatever reason, the baby was deemed able to survive out of…
Probably because it was whatever age. In England at least, in the opposite situation, wanted baby comes out way too early, they have refused to resuscitate and it was a a horrifying experience for the mother. Don't you think it's a bit gruesome to watch a fetus, exactly the same as many premature babies , just die?…
WHY would they resuscitate the foetus?
Yes, the baby is disabled, but so are a lot of other premature infants or babies with congenital illnesses. That doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve medical care.
Tennessee law bans both self-induced late term abortion and requires MDs (or any other health care provider) “to use due care to preserve life of baby born alive.” Failure to provide medical care to a fetus born alive is a felony in Tennessee. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. We do. I probably do.
Yes. This.
No, you were the one who was offensive. DH was quite right to call your remark a “conversation-killing pejorative.” It’s far too common in discussions of this type.
