These terms aren’t mutually exclusive.

I don’t know that he has PTSD, and haven’t argued that he does. But it’s certainly reasonable to me to consider that someone who went to prison might, as studies reveal people in prison are twice as likely to develop PTSD as those on the outside.

They are threatening to cut his balls off and rape him. That’s not protected speech.

Well, for one thing, I wasn’t saying you should feel sympathy for Turner, or any rapist. But no, that’s actually not the narrative his father was going for, which was my point. The narrative his father was going for was that his son had been traumatized by the trial.

I have no idea if he has PTSD, and I didn’t say he does. I said his father’s statement, when speaking of his loss of appetite, was intended (I presume) to indicate that he has symptoms associated with trauma.

I’m afraid it does. Prolonged exposure to something that makes you (and the world) feel unsafe can be as corrosive as any violent trauma.
