are customs agents going to be that familiar with the weights of potential internal components? does gold show up different on an xray? the only thing obviously suspicious to me is the build quality of rotating components, otherwise i wouldn’t expect a customs official to be so thorough.
why would gold show up on an xray different than any other metal those parts would be made out of? i don’t quite understand how they figured this out, other than poor machining quality.

the problem is when manufacturers simply see these tax breaks for customers as an opportunity to raise their prices - so the taxpayer isn’t even helping car buyers - just giving money to corporations.
