How can you run an obit about this guy without mentioning “Time Bandits?” I mean, he certainly doesn’t come to mind when I think of Twin Peaks. When Bruce Willis dies I full expect the headline here to be

“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”

I really thought that Robin guy was an actor! Wild how Angela found a person that weird all by herself. Like, he just left? In the middle of the night? “Is that your bag?” Angela asks in disbelief. Same, girl, same. (Also, does Angela sound like someone doing a Kim Kardashian impression or is that just me?)

In other news, filming has also begun on Nope, which releases today.

Uh what? This movie wrapped filming last year. How do you think the movie would make a March 2023 release date if it was just starting filming today?

it’s kind of ironic coming from Tarantino, who quite literally takes scenes from other movies. I don’t knock him for it, but it’s strange to be upset at someone else for borrowing an idea.

I think instead continuing the Indy series, the next Indiana Jones movie should just have a car screech to a halt right in front of Indy and we see Ke Huy Quan now playing an adult Short Round say, “hop in Dr Jones, we going for a ride” and have Short Round be the future star of the franchise. His character is built

Hey, Joe Dante is no John Hughes! The Daniel Clamp character in Gremlins 2 is really a cross between Trump and Ted Turner, and he does redeem himself by the end of the film.

What?!

And it wasn’t even written by Barsanti!

Yeah, even by current AV Club’s “sneery killjoy” standards, this is really sneery and killjoy-y.

Somewhere there’s a parallel universe that actually has joyful articles wondering about what a Spielberg Fantastic 4 movie would look like.

None of this works without Iron Man, to the point where the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was shaped around his worldview, his sense of humor, and his egotism

I agree the Professor Pig stuff (of what I’ve read, haven’t caught up in a spell) is definitely veering into grimdark’s lane but that almost seems like a dilution of the term, which is in part why I think we all agree the term is being overused. Like, particular parts of stories could work well in a grimdark setting

I’m just going to come out and say it:

I really don’t understand this marketing campaign for The Flash.

Holy shit, that interview about the picture book drove me nuts. It perfectly encapsulates my pet peeve about celebrity written picture books. They’ll go on highly publicized promo tours and talk about their writing process with ZERO mention of the illustrator of the book. a PICTURE book!

I cannot think of a single memorable female role in any of those movies...

The have the perfect 007 in Lashana Lynch. She was fun! Use her!

I don’t know why people always have to bring up that it started as fanfiction, or why you have to throw around “middle-aged housewife” so pejoratively. Yes I found the books boring and the movie (I only saw the first) bad, but this is a middle-aged housewife who was able to connect somehow with millions of people and

it’s a boring, murky movie with zero stakes. What a shitty thing to do to Lord & Miller.
