I don’t think it will ever truly disappear but I do think it fades. Sometimes I go months without thinking of opioids (heroin specifically) then something happens in my life and suddenly I’m having dope dreams.... do I use? No (I’m also on 2 mgs of suboxone which helps), But the temptation alone causes so much guilt.…

It does fade, but it never really goes away. I gave up booze many years ago, but the cravings still come back under the right (or rather, wrong) set of circumstances. Then I’m back to “I will not have this partucular drink” incrementalism for a while until they recede again.
