Kubota is one exception to the rule, they build the best small industrial duty engines in the world. I was moreso referencing Yanmar 3 cylinders in my comparison to the VM 1.8L, I’ve never been overly impressed with how Yanmar 3 cylinder diesels run out. It takes some massive iso mounts to calm them down and they

Agreed, Ford really nailed down the 1.0L and it runs out great as a result. I don’t know the specifics of the internals, but I would guess they might utilize a twice speed counterbalancer to smooth it out. A mid 80s Alfa/ VM motor that's almost twice as big probably isn’t nearly as refined and is the building block

Yes and no. More of what I was talking about is just how rough any 3 cylinder can run and it kind of depends on the displacement. A smaller displacement 3 banger (gas or diesel) will typically vibrate less than a larger 3 cylinder. Something as big as a 1.8L should really be a 4 cylinder in my opinion. Just my $.02

Gave it a NP just because I have seen what these can live through as a friend of mine had one and it could not be killed. At all. No matter what you did, the thing just ran and ran and ran.

I guess I’ve only been around them on small gensets/power units that we use at work. Everything from harmonic balancers on the engine to input shafts on generators seem to have shorter service lives versus a 4 cylinder unit. Just my experience I guess, but I can see where they’d be much better than a 2 cylinder.

Not horribly awful performance for the displacement, but 3 cylinder diesels are, in every way possible, the worst idea in the world. They shake themselves into self destruction, no matter what attempt is made at counterbalancing them.

“What you end up with is a car like the new Jeep Cherokee. It’s okay off-road, it’s okay on the highway, it’s okay in the turns. But it doesn’t have the soul of a Wrangler”

He missed the opportunity to throw spinner wheels on this dank ass ride. Fuckin amateur.....

My exact thought! I saw the title and thought that it meant AMG had built some ballistic marine duty motors and slammed them in a suicide dingy.

Ah yes, the mighty Up exclamation point *in Clarkson voice*

“Only three other mid-size sedans — the Chevrolet Malibu, Mazda 6 and Subaru Legacy — saw retail sales increase in 2015.”

Good catch! I guess I’ve never known that there was a difference in badges.

It’s probably powered by the 7.3L Powerstroke. A 6.0L would have blown a head gasket... or cracked a head...or ruined an injector or HPOP trying to do that. In all seriousness, it sounds like a 7.3 in the video with a deeper tone and turbo spool than the 6.0

Much want!

That Cobra may have given me a heart attack. It deserves more stars!

The ACR makes me happy that Dodge knows how to build a ballistic car without catering to the “I need a comfortable track car with all the finest frills.” The ACR has nothing unneeded, just 8.4L of condensed bald eagle shrieks under the hood.

A Panther could probably make those comments great again.

Jalopnik this week.......#wagonlopnik

Not so much an issue of Bosch, more so an issue of how they use what Bosch has available. Cummins and GM Duramax both use Bosch fuel systems in the light truck market. Not sure of Ford, as the new power stroke is built in house. Medium duty/heavy duty truck markets also either use Bosch or have a Bosch connection.
