With the painted on grille treatment, even it looks sad to be a Tempo.

Man, I am truly sorry for your loss. Did the ‘58 truly go to the crusher, or did it get sold?

What I find most mindblowing is the monthly price someone would pay in 1992 dollars to drive one of those! $194/ month is the current inflation-adjusted equivalent of about $343/ month.

Agreed, a ban on selling studded tires would be even better. The studless tires on the market are better anyway for 95% of snow/ice conditions, and even then you still have the option of chains when it gets really bad.

At least in Oregon and Washington, studs must be off on in April (unless the state issues an extension). I really wish there would be some sort of extra tax on studded tires in the region, to help pay for road repair.

More like Toyota LandBruiser! And damn, that is one beautiful engine bay.

In terms of pure joy, Lil’ Yachty is not even really there. Big Baby D.R.A.M., on the other hand, is both very talented and seems genuinely appreciative and happy.

I agree it is not a “legitimate” part, but it certainly is something I have come across plenty, in talking with car guys about their projects and how much they spend. A similar gendered stereotype/trope about women’s spending also exists, about hiding clothing-related expenses from their spouses.

That sounds like a reasonable approach. Part of our issue is the way we have been managing our finances. We each put half each our income into shared joint account, and can do whatever we want with the rest. Admittedly this is not a very disciplined approach to household finances and savings. Luckily we can live

Thanks, and I definitely know about the requirement to have a going concern, not just a shelter for expensing hobbies. My accountant is a former IRS agent and has told me about what they look for...your guidance is accurate.

This was a well written and tragic tale. A cautionary one too, about how important it is to be honest with ourselves and those we love.

Now if he had an air-cooled Porsche obsession and addiction, I’m sure some would be hailing him for his financial acumen and predictive abilities...but since he is a run-of-the-mill BMW snob, he gets prison.

While somewhat tragic for the prancing horse, this made me chuckle a lot.

I just can’t stand watching rally racing these days, or even SCCA races these days with all their silly helmets and costumes. Why do they have to wear those onesies and funny neck things? Oh yeah, different sports have different physical requirements and thus different appropriate clothing.

Good for you - other people enjoy other things and luckily we live in a society where we have choices.

Sure, on highways and divided roads go ahead and put minimum speed limits. But no way on narrow undivided roads like this - just remember that there are lots of other slow moving users of roads. It is still legal to drive farm machinery on rural roads (with proper signage) and even operate horses and buggies - you

Wow, yeah reading through that thread and him justifying it with the : “everyone drives reckless when they are young” is just too much. I want the hammer of the law to drop on this entitled prick. He is excited about the views and the potential that he will “be famous” by the cross-post to Jalopnik and has zero regret

He didn’t just overcook that corner, he was burning any safety margin he had the entire time by flying around blind corners and in shitty, patchy lighting conditions. This guy gets no sympathy from me, and a whole lot of rage.

Absolutely, this asshole was clipping the other lane and blasting around blind corners. The light conditions are also the worst, with oncoming glare and patches of shade. As someone who rides bicycles and motorcycles, fuck this guy and his reckless self. I sort of feel like I know this place;  it appears to be Skyline

The Mk2 Scirocco uses a similarly resilient and (likely) tasty foam material.
