Didn’t realize they were fully banned. I do remember attending some ALMS races in the mid-2000s and Mazda had a 3 rotor Renesis-based engine in the back of an open top Lola LMP2. It ran for only a season or two before they decided to go for a more conventional DI 4 cylinder turbo engine, and changed bodystyles to a

Right on. You bought one from the dry side of the Rockies, too. Might end up surprised at just how little rust there is underneath being used to Michigan rusted heaps.

Personal wet dream right there, but yeah, as D Flower mentions, that would make it very pricey. Diesels alone already command a premium due to how much beefier the engine internals need to be for the high compression as well as the very precise and super high pressure direct fuel injection systems plus the complicated

I’ll take it as a win that you have no further thoughts on that one and only have a shitty gif for a response.

I’m merely pointing out where diesel has the advantage. Not everyone lives in the city and genuinely require the capabilities that these sorts of vehicles offer as well as drive long distance on rural byways and freeways.

Ironic you would mention that there isn’t a “one size fits all solution” when you were effectively proposing just that. PHEV all the things.

Better yet, get the government to spend the huge amount of money they rake in on the things they say they’re going to spend it on rather than on their pet projects or otherwise diverting it to things we don’t need.

Of course you won’t, but you will still get far better mileage than you would with any other engine, plus if you’re directly comparing towing to a Cybertruck, you have the advantage of convenience during refueling on your side where it will only take you minutes to the Cybertrucks near hour to get an adequate charge

Ever tow anything long distance?

VW is struggling overall for sales in North America. They see where the market is headed and are doing the shrewd thing, attempting to adjust to it... albeit very late to the party.

A lot of common FWD cars have no better turning radius than many 5 seat SUVs that are a little longer and much taller. Hell, the only time I get in a vehicle and am wow’d at how tight the turning radius is are old RWD sporty coupes. And those being 2 seats doesn’t make them very practical.

That is fantastic news. 3 liter 6 diesels really seem to be an awesome sweet spot with current technology for torque, good enough horsepower and efficiency in the most common car class in the U.S.. Trucks and SUVs, especially in that ‘half ton’ size.

You scale up the size and weight of a vehicle, it gets more difficult for hybrids to make sense to get genuinely good fuel economy vs. a diesel.

Now playing

As if this is the first time Pirellis have sucked.

Battery size and range are one thing, ICE vehicles when towing experience a similar large reduction in range, the REAL issue for EVs is charge time when doing anything long distance, especially towing.

Mid to late 90s all over again.

Oh hell yeah.

Would be curious to see someone attempt this with a diesel plus an extra large fuel cell. Thinking more along the lines of something that already has a large tank and decent power to get deep enough into triple digits (doesn’t need to do 190... but I’m sure it helps to make up time in some of the more wide open areas

Yeah, if they can’t find anything obviously wrong like a sticking brake, underinflated tires or the alignment being way out of spec and there’s no codes stored in any of the drivetrain computers, not a whole lot they can do. The dealer didn’t engineer it. Toyota did. And since most dealers are independent franchises,

As the resident TDI nerd, who also works on them for a living and sees what their common issues are, the most common “fixed” TDIs are going to be the gen 1 engines, and those are probably the ones I’d avoid. They’re not as efficient as they used to be, and they were already less efficient than the gen 2 and 3 engines

What if, just stay with me here, what if Elon’s crazy accomplishments are a response to parental disapproval of things he said he wanted to do when he was a kid...
