Ouch. I will say that with gas engines in real world use, they do tend to get noticeably worse than EPA estimates. Diesels tend to be a lot closer or sometimes even exceed them.

For shits n giggles and because I profess to like how the format of gallons/100 miles works out...

At 89 MPG you’re burning only a little over 1.1 gallons to go 100 miles.

At 20 MPG, you’re burning 5 gallons.

And there’s 8887 g of CO2 waiting to be released in every gallon of gasoline.

You do know that for a gas car to output less than 100 grams per mile CO2 that it has to get better than 89 MPG, right?

Absolutely. They’ve been doing it forever anyway. Fanciest cars get the new tech first, then it eventually is better developed to be more reliable and cheaper and then gets implemented into more plebian offerings.

Previous ramblings aside, this could actually be a very good opportunity for VW and all their brands. Having an uber-luxury and super expensive car entering into the electric vehicle fray means they can build some extreme performance and crazy size batteries, charging tech and use the money of the rich to better dial

Well, VW would be the only one to fund it either way. They wholly own Bugatti anyway.

Pretty typical. Americans made several over the top nuts concept cars from the late 80s through the 2000s, almost none of them ever saw a hint of going into production.

I don’t hate it. At least it has performance that will blow the vast majority of actual Mustangs right off the road.

I’m going to add to my previous reply a reminder that we almost had the Ford Probe be the next Mustang, replacing the Fox body in the late 80s. The uproar from Mustang traditionalists was so great against the Mustang being turned into a FWD sporty coupe that Ford decided to extend the Fox body’s production run and put

Yeah, maybe not the Mustang’s proudest generation. In 1974, you couldn’t even get them with a V8. And when the V8 did come back, it was sub 150 hp thanks to tightening emissions regs and automakers scrambling to kludge together ways to meet regs.

Yeah, was SCCA, though it had a title sponsor in SPEED Channel for awhile... then Pirelli? All blurs together anymore.

Haven’t watched it yet, might tonight, which is a rarity for me with any movie to attempt to brave crowds on opening weekend, but, that’s how excited I am for the movie.

Hah, right?? A little more modularness in their road cars definitely wouldn’t be a bad thing. They’ve attempted to do a little bit of that, but you’ll definitely not ever see a 4 minutes transmission and suspension swap on a road car, that’s for sure. Then again, most car repairs tend to be 1 technician doing the work

I wouldn’t call it pointless. It was a good car with some interesting tech. Cadillac was making DOHC 32V V8s for years with the Northstar family and they claimed the race engine had its basis on that. They even installed a night vision heads up display, but apparently it was so distracting that drivers just ended up

When it comes to these cars, to me it’s less about the outside looks (the Germans used to be a little more restrained with their styling in this class, still sort of are) and more about what it’s like to be inside the car.

For some reason it strikes me as... sort of Koenigsegg-esque... before Koenigsegg.

NFS2 memories!

Really cool project! Makes me want to get serious about making the Touareg an overlander. Was already looking into roof top tents and the like. It’s not quite long enough for me to sleep in with the seats down, and add the girlfriend, definitely not enough space. Though the couple times I tried a short trail, she

Yes, gas engines have indeed made huge strides, and the torque density is very similar when you’re talking about small displacement 4 cylinders it seems. But as you ramp up in vehicle size and weight, the diesel advantage gap tends to increase. And despite what the EPA ratings tell you, in real world use, the diesel

If you think towing with the 2.8 CRD is bad, you should try it with the standard 3.7 V6 from the era...
